Charitable status
Committee run provisions with charitable aims (ie. not for profit) can register to become a charity. This will increase access to various funding streams for example the group can perform fundraising activities, apply for grants from funding organisations and benefit from certain tax incentives.
To become a charity you will need to contact the Charity Commission and obtain a registration pack and develop a constitution that meets the criteria of charitable law. As a charity you will continually need adhere to charitable law and submit regular financial statements to the Charities commission

If your organisation has charitable aims and wishes to register as a charity, however you would also like to protect your liability you can become a charity limited by guarantee. The best way to go about it is by firstly registering your setting as a company limited by guarantee with Companies House. Once you have received your certificate of Incorporation from Companies House you can then contact the Charities Commission and ask for a registration pack.
